  1. Hi I'm Kim,

I love using Technology in lessons with my high school students. I teach history and getting kids to recall information and recognize chronology is difficult. I found that technology does worlds of good with this. I use electronic key pads or clickers to help students remember important facts. This gets the competitive juices flowing (healthy competition). The repetitiveness of this imprints pertinent facts in their minds. I am a huge proponent of CNN Student News. I think its a great way to open class and keep kids connected with current events. Today's curriculum in my district does not call for this and personally, I think there should be some room for current events and this is the way that I get it in. I find that electronic timelines assist in getting students to understand chronology. PowerPoints, web quests, and other programs help students to order events and recognize the space or time period between them. I am interested in linking economics with history a little more. Students usually struggle with Econ on standardized tests so I want to simplify concepts for them through the use of technology. I am working on constructing lessons with Excel. Students would use the math function capabilities to calculate economic formulas such as GDP. I want them to create charts, tables, and graphs and notice trends, then relate them to history. Sound fun! Enjoy my blog and please feel free to comment.

    1. Hello Kim, I'm Julia. I think it is really great that you have incorporated the use of technology into teaching history. I know this material can be difficult for students to remember at times and it's nice to hear that you have used technology to help them remember important facts. I also know that students, especially the older ones, tend to be very motivated anytime you can turn a lesson into a game or competition. It sounds like you are already putting technology to great use! It's nice to "meet you."

  2. Hello Kimberly, my name is Sean. It was very interesting to hear about the ways you incorporate technology into your high school history lessons. I very much agree with you that healthy competition amongst students is a wonderful way to teach concepts and to help to "make them stick".

The fact that they are using electronic keypads is a great idea.
Is also terrific to hear that students are becoming more familiar with the mathematical part of Microsoft's Excel. One of my personal weaknesses as a teacher is my lack of knowledge of Excel.
Best of luck with the rest of the course.

  4. I'm thinking of a project for girls for women's history month in my school. An Empowerment seminar: motivational speakers, facial spa and make up, hair stylists, zuumba, financial seminar, healthy eating classes, etc. It would be an all-nighter for girls only. Girls would get locked in at 11pm until breakfast at 7am.

  5. Currently I have my students use word processing to compose essays. They also have the option to complete assignments using Microsoft Word. They can attach them to emails and submit them or print them out. I like having them submit essays using word and email them. I check rough drafts inserting comments then I send them back for revision. Word processing is important in my own teacher duties. I compose my lesson plans in word, I create assignments with it, and correspondence. It is literally part of my everyday life.
